Vehicle Meth Testing in Melbourne
Vehicle meth testing in Melbourne for private buyers, sellers, campervan owners and fleet managers who need measured methylamphetamine results that a roadworthy certificate or PPSR search cannot provide. Wipes go to a NATA-accredited laboratory and come back in a signed report.
Vehicles We Test
Vehicle meth residue testing for Melbourne owners
A roadworthy inspection focuses on safety parts. It says nothing about drug residue left inside by a previous owner or driver. Test Australia measures that residue in cars, vans and campervans kept around Melbourne.
We sample, send the wipes to a laboratory and report. We do not clean, for the reasons in why we stay independent. For a house or apartment, see meth testing in Melbourne.

Request a fee proposalWhat a Victorian roadworthy certificate covers
When a registered vehicle is sold in Victoria, the seller must provide a Certificate of Roadworthiness less than 30 days old, and a licensed vehicle tester carries out the check (Consumer Affairs Victoria, selling a car). Transport Victoria says the inspection checks main safety parts such as wheels and tyres. It does not show whether the car is mechanically reliable or what its general condition is (Transport Victoria, roadworthy certificate). This is general information, not legal advice.
Drug residue is not among the items a roadworthy inspection checks. A seller who wants to give buyers measured results can commission a residue report alongside the roadworthy.
PPSR and NEVDIS records for a Melbourne purchase
A PPSR vehicle search shows whether a car is recorded as free from debt, and may show whether it is recorded as stolen or written off. The stolen and written-off data comes from road agencies and police through NEVDIS (PPSR car check). This is general information, not legal advice.
Those records follow the vehicle's paperwork, not its interior. A buyer who wants both answers can run the PPSR search while arranging residue sampling with the seller. Our pre-purchase vehicle guide covers what to ask the seller before the visit.
Melbourne winters and getting into the vehicle
At the Bureau of Meteorology's long-running Melbourne Regional Office station, rain of 1 mm or more falls on about 100 days a year. Mean 9am humidity peaks at 80% in June, and July's mean maximum is 13.5 °C (BOM, Melbourne Regional Office averages).
Sampling needs a dry cabin with the doors open for a while. In the cooler, wetter months, an undercover space such as a garage or a covered storage bay keeps rain off the interior. If a vehicle can only be reached in the open, mention it when you enquire so the visit can be planned around the weather.
Sampling across Melbourne's 32 metropolitan councils
Victoria's planning department divides metropolitan Melbourne into 6 regions made up of 32 local government areas. Yarra Ranges sits in the Eastern region and the Southern region takes in the Mornington Peninsula (Planning Victoria, metropolitan regions).
Vehicles anywhere in those councils are sampled where they are kept, with consent from whoever controls them. Geelong is counted separately from Greater Melbourne, so vehicles there, and in the rest of Victoria, are attended by arrangement. See regional testing for how that works.
The criterion behind a Melbourne vehicle result
Victoria's Department of Health practice note on clandestine laboratory remediation was written for council environmental health officers (Department of Health practice note). The report states which criterion results are compared against and why.
0.5 µg/100 cm² is the residential indoor-surface investigation level for methylamphetamine in the Australian Government's Clandestine Drug Laboratory Remediation Guidelines (2011). It triggers further investigation or remediation and is not a line between safe and unsafe. See the 0.5 explainer. Whether a tribunal, court or insurer relies on a report is a decision for them, and our insurance claims guide for vehicles covers that process.
Analysis, kits and related Melbourne services
Meth is analysed by LC-MS/MS following NIOSH Method 9111 at a NATA-accredited laboratory, after suitably qualified occupational hygienists collect the wipes under chain of custody. Test Australia itself is not NATA-accredited. The NATA page explains the difference. Reports are available within 5 business days of the laboratory results being received.
For a first check on a car you already own, a kit from the shop works as a presumptive screen at a 0.5 µg/100 cm² cut-off. It is not laboratory analysis, it does not put a number on the residue, and a positive or unclear screen needs laboratory testing. How to swab with a kit has the details. Other drugs are covered by drug residue testing in Melbourne. If you dispute a result, read challenging results. The national vehicle meth testing page and our types of assessment work round out the picture. Ask for a fee proposal to get started.
How a Melbourne vehicle test is arranged
Outline the vehicle and its history
Tell us the type, the council area where it is kept, any roadworthy or sale date, and whether anyone has lived in it.
Review the fee proposal
A written proposal sets the scope, from a single car cabin to a campervan with sleeping and cooking areas.
Book a dry, sheltered visit
Choose a garage or covered bay where possible, and leave the interior undetailed until sampling is finished.
Wipes collected and analysed
Measured areas are sampled with field blanks, then analysed at a NATA-accredited laboratory by LC-MS/MS.
Signed report against a stated criterion
You receive each result by location, the criterion used and why, and the limits of what was sampled.
