On former drug labs, Queensland Health says local councils regulate the health risks under the Public Health Act 2005, and owners are responsible for removing the chemical contamination before others live there. Brisbane weather, floods and housing as they affect testing
The Bureau of Meteorology describes South East Queensland as subtropical, with hot, humid summers and more rain between October and April. In February 2022 the Moreton rainfall district, which takes in Greater Brisbane, had its wettest week since at least 1900, according to BOM Special Climate Statement 76. During ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred, Brisbane's gauge recorded 275.2 mm on 10 March 2025, its highest daily total since January 1974, according to the BOM Alfred summary. A single flood can raise mould, bacteria and contents questions in one building, which is why the Brisbane bacteria testing page and the storm and flood season guide are often read together.
Housing shapes the work as well. Brisbane City Council counts 190 suburbs and about 1.38 million residents. In the 2021 Census, about 63% of occupied dwellings in the council area were separate houses and about a quarter were flats or apartments. Traditional Queenslanders, built in 1946 or earlier, are typically timber and raised on stumps, unlike a modern slab home. The scope for each visit takes the building type into account.

How a Brisbane assessment runs
- Describe the Brisbane property. Send the address, the type of building or vehicle, the concern and any deadline, such as a QCAT hearing, a council order or a settlement date.
- Agree the scope and fee. You receive a written fee proposal listing the tests, the laboratory work and what the report will answer, before any visit is booked.
- Site visit and sampling. A suitably qualified occupational hygienist attends, records the conditions and collects samples under documented chain of custody.
- Laboratory analysis. Samples travel to the laboratory with their custody paperwork, and the analytical method used for each test is recorded for the report.

Does Test Australia clean or repair Brisbane homes after testing?

Can a Brisbane body corporate arrange testing across a whole building?
Yes. About a quarter of occupied dwellings in the Brisbane council area at the 2021 Census were flats or apartments, and a fire, a leak or a tenancy concern in one lot can affect others. A body corporate can commission testing of common areas and individual lots, with written consent arranged for each lot that is entered.
